How the spacebar counter works
Pick a time limit, then tap the space bar as fast as you can. Every press counts once. Keeping the key held down does not count, because the browser repeats a held key on its own and that would not be a fair test.
What is a good spacebar score?
Most people tap the space bar 5 to 7 times per second with one thumb. Alternating both thumbs, or using two fingers, pushes the score higher. A light mechanical switch is easier to tap quickly than a laptop key with short travel.
Is your space bar working properly?
If presses go missing or count twice, test the key in the keyboard tester. It flags key chatter, where one press registers twice. A space bar that sticks on one side often has a dirty or bent stabiliser wire.
Frequently asked questions
Short answers to the questions people ask most about this test.
How does a spacebar counter work?
It counts each time you press the space bar during the time limit and divides the total by the seconds to give presses per second.
Does holding the space bar count?
No. Only new presses count. A held key repeats automatically, so those repeats are ignored.
What is the spacebar clicker record?
There is no official record. Scores above 10 presses per second over 10 seconds are rare with one finger.
